Introducing Art Appetizers at @Art Gym, a fun, flexible way to try an art medium without committing to a multi-day workshop. Each two-hour class is like a creative sampler designed to satisfy your hunger to learn a new technique, with a different offering each week, like collage, fiber art, drawing, painting, block printing and other printmaking techniques.

Plan ahead or drop in last minute, just bring your curiosity and save room for something new. Must be 18 or older.

9/19 - Fiber Art: "Small Nature Stitching"
Instructor: Susan Dillon. Join fiber & mixed media artist Susan Dillon for an exploration of some of the more overlooked parts of nature in yarn and fabric. Using inspiration from mosses, lichens & fungi, we will play with embroidery & fabric manipulation to create forest-floor inspired miniature landscapes. No previous embroidery or sewing experience needed, and all the materials and tools needed will be provided.

Instructor: Sarah Bouma. Join us for a workshop focused on the foundational principles of collage. You'll explore the art of transforming familiar materials into bold, evocative compositions. This hands-on session will guide you through techniques like layering, juxtaposition, and deconstruction, encouraging you to experiment with color, texture, and form. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of collage as a medium, and will leave with a unique piece of art that reflects your personal vision.

Instructor: Jono Wright. Have you ever wondered how artists make a drawing that looks three-dimensional? In this class we will explore five strategies artists use to create the illusion of depth in their drawings, and the best part is anyone can do it! This class is for absolute beginners or those more familiar with drawing.

Instructor: Angel Estrada. Come and learn different unique printmaking techniques that allow you to make colorful and repeatable pictures. Using common art supplies that you can cut, color and print copies. Monotype printmaking techniques allow you to make pictures with many different materials, colors and effects. We will learn the basics of printmaking methods that can also be used at home without special equipment and have a lot of time to make artwork in a facilitated classroom.

Instructor: Virginia Diaz Saiki. Turn plain fabric into a custom-printed textile in this hands-on printmaking class. You’ll learn the full block printing process using pre-carved blocks and finally taking home a one-color print.
